The CCDC Chemical Crystallography Prize for Younger Scientists

The CCDC Prize is sponsored by the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre and is awarded annually to an outstanding early career researcher who has made significant contribution to chemical crystallography and its community.

The CCDC Prize was created by the CCDC and the Chemical Crystallography Group (CCG) of the British Crystallographic Association (BCA) in 2000 with the aim to ‘inspire and recognize excellence in crystallographic research coming from early career scientists in the UK’. The prize is awarded for original research in the field of chemical crystallography or the application of crystallographic information to structural chemistry, including advances in instrumental, experimental, theoretical or computational techniques that contribute to this field.

Call for nominations for the 2025-26 Prize

The call for nominations for the 2026 Prize is open from Monday 1 December 2025 until 12:00 (GMT) on Friday 30 January 2026. Self-nominations are permitted.

Nomination Guidelines

The award is principally based on original published research (up to three publications) within the scientific field of interest of the CCDC and BCA-CCG. Broadly, this corresponds to original research in the field of chemical crystallography or the application of crystallographic information to structural chemistry, including advances in instrumental, experimental, theoretical or computational techniques that contribute to the field. Consideration shall also be given to contributions to the scientific and crystallographic community, such as involvement in committees, conference organisation, education and outreach.

Proposers are typically those with expertise in the field that allows them to comment on the nominee’s research and other factors relevant to the award. Self-nominations are permitted.

The nomination form, accompanied by .pdf copies of up to three publications upon which the nomination is based, should be returned to the Secretary-Treasurer of the CCG, Dr Louise Male (email: secretary_treasurer@ccg.crystallography.org.uk).

The nomination form can be found: NOMINATION FORM

Eligibility

• Scientists nominated for the Prize shall be not more than 35 years of age on 1st January of the award year, except that up to five additional years may be allowed if there has been a significant career break during which the nominee was unable to carry out research.

• The nominee must either be from the United Kingdom or have carried out the majority of their research in an establishment in the UK.

• The nominee must be available to present their work at Prize lecture session of the BCA Spring Meeting in Leeds, which runs from Monday 30 March 2026 – Wednesday 1 April 2026, otherwise they will be considered ineligible for the Prize.
